Before you begin

Requirements and first-time setup

iPhone, iPad, and Android

OpenVox Reader supports iPhone and iPad running iOS or iPadOS 17.0 or newer, plus compatible Android devices listed on Google Play.

One-time AI model download

The private voice engine requires an internet connection for its first download and approximately 400 MB of free storage. Once installed, it runs locally and can generate speech without an internet connection.

Settings guide

Make reading feel right for you

Settings are private playback preferences stored on your device. Open the Settings tab from the bottom navigation to change them.

Reading theme

Choose System to follow your device appearance, Dark for low-light reading, Light for a clean bright view, or Paper for a warmer book-like page.

Narrator

Tap any available narrator to preview the voice and make it your default. A checkmark shows the selected narrator; a lock identifies voices that require OpenVox Pro.

Language

Select the default language used for narration across your library. For the best pronunciation, choose the language that matches the document.

Reading speed

Set the default playback pace. Start at 1.0× for a natural cadence, then slow down for detailed material or speed up for faster listening.

Text size and reading font

Adjust the on-screen text size and choose how text is displayed. Original Book Font preserves the source styling when supported.

iCloud sync on Apple devices

Pro users can enable iCloud sync to keep their library available across iPhone and iPad. Both devices must use the same Apple Account with iCloud Drive enabled.

OpenVox Pro

The free experience includes 15 listening minutes each day. The $14.99 lifetime OpenVox Pro unlock removes that daily limit and unlocks Pro features and narrators. Purchase availability and localized pricing are shown in the app.

On-device AI

The local AI model supports 31 languages. Settings shows whether it is downloaded and active. Delete it to reclaim about 400 MB; an internet connection will be required to download it again.

Frequently asked questions

Does OpenVox Reader require an internet connection?+

An internet connection is required once to download the on-device AI voice model, which uses approximately 400 MB of storage. After the model is installed, speech generation and playback work offline. Internet is still required when retrieving web links or using iCloud sync on supported Apple devices.

What devices and system versions are supported?+

OpenVox Reader supports iPhone and iPad running iOS or iPadOS 17.0 or newer, plus compatible Android devices listed on Google Play.

How much storage does the AI model need?+

Allow approximately 400 MB of free space for the on-device AI model. The exact installed size can vary slightly by app version. You can delete the model from Settings to reclaim space and download it again later.

What can I import?+

You can bring in ebooks, PDFs, supported documents and text files, web links, scanned printed pages, or text you paste or type directly.

Where are my documents processed?+

Your documents are processed on your device and are not uploaded to OpenVox Reader servers.

How do I sync between iPhone and iPad?+

Sign in to the same Apple Account on both devices, enable iCloud for OpenVox Reader, and allow time for the library to refresh.

Does my OpenVox AI license include OpenVox Reader?+

No. OpenVox AI and OpenVox Reader are separate apps with separate licenses and purchases.

Does one Reader license work across iPhone, iPad, and Android?+

A Reader purchase made through the App Store can be restored on both iPhone and iPad when you use the same Apple Account. Android uses a separate Google Play purchase, and purchases do not transfer between the App Store and Google Play.

How do I restore my Reader purchase?+

Open OpenVox Reader settings and choose Restore Purchases. On iPhone or iPad, use the same Apple Account that made the App Store purchase. On Android, use the same Google Account that made the Google Play purchase.

Why is a web page not importing correctly?+

Some websites restrict access or use complex interactive layouts. Try the page’s reader view, copy and paste the article text, or save the page as a PDF and import it.

iCloud sync help

Check that iCloud Drive and OpenVox Reader are enabled on both devices and that both use the same Apple Account.
