OpenVox Reader Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 25, 2026

OpenVox Reader is designed so your reading stays yours. This policy explains how the app handles information on Apple and Android devices.

1. Platforms covered

This policy applies to the OpenVox Reader apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.

2. Information we collect

OpenVox Reader does not collect, sell, or share your personal information, document contents, listening history, or reading activity. The app does not require an OpenVox Reader account.

3. On-device processing

Speech generation and document processing are performed on your device. Your imported books, PDFs, documents, scanned pages, saved links, and pasted text are not uploaded to OpenVox Reader servers.

4. Network activity

Core speech generation works on your device after the required AI model is downloaded. Internet access is used for model downloads and for features you choose that need a network connection, such as opening web links, platform purchases, optional sync or backup, and system speech recognition. AI model downloads:

  • Occur when you first use a feature that needs the model or when you manually download it.
  • Connect to https://huggingface.co/.
  • May transmit standard request metadata, such as your IP address, user agent, and related HTTPS request details, required by Hugging Face to deliver the files.
  • Are cached locally and do not need to be downloaded again unless you delete the model, clear the app data, uninstall the app, or an updated model is required.
  • Can be managed from Settings > On-device AI.

5. Local storage

Your library, playback position, listening statistics, settings, downloaded AI model, and other app data are stored locally on your device. You can remove this information by deleting content or the AI model in the app, clearing the app data on Android, or uninstalling the app.

6. Platform sync and backup

On iPhone and iPad, if you enable iCloud sync, Apple may sync your OpenVox Reader library and related app data between devices signed in to your Apple Account. On Android, device or app data may be included in a system backup if backup is enabled in your Android or device-provider settings. Apple, Google, or your device provider handles that data under your account settings and its privacy policy. We do not operate or access those platform storage services.

7. Web links

When you add a web link, your device connects to that website to retrieve the content you requested. The destination website may receive standard connection information such as your IP address and may apply its own privacy policy.

8. Camera, photos, and files

Camera access is used only when you choose to scan printed pages. Photo, media, or file access is used only when you choose content to import. Selected photos, scans, and files are processed for the requested feature and are not sent to us. You can change these permissions at any time in your iOS, iPadOS, or Android device settings.

9. Dictate, microphone, and speech recognition

When you choose Dictate, OpenVox Reader requests microphone access to capture the words you speak. On iPhone and iPad, dictation uses Apple Speech Recognition. On Android, dictation uses the speech-recognition service available on your device. Depending on your platform, device, language, and settings, audio and transcription data may be processed by Apple, Google, or another speech-service provider under that provider’s privacy practices. OpenVox Reader uses the microphone only while you are actively dictating, does not retain the microphone recording, and does not send it to OpenVox Reader servers. You can revoke microphone or speech-recognition permissions in your device settings.

10. Purchases

Purchases and restorations are processed by Apple through the App Store on iPhone and iPad, or by Google through Google Play on Android. We do not receive your payment card details. The applicable store may provide the app with limited transaction information needed to confirm your entitlement.

11. Analytics and advertising

OpenVox Reader does not include third-party advertising or behavioral tracking. Apple, Google, or your device provider may provide crash reports or diagnostics if you have chosen to share that information with app developers in your device settings.

12. Children’s privacy

Because we do not knowingly collect personal information, OpenVox Reader does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app changes or when required by law. The effective date shown on this page will be updated when material changes are made.
